A camping we will go...

We headed out bright and early Saturday morning. Big Lake bound in the White Mountains, with two very excited boys, actually make that three!
We had a motorhome before we left Utah, so this would be our first ever family TENT camping trip. It started off a little ,well off. Our trip was to be only 4 hours, but with some mismap reading by um well we won't mention names...Todd. It ended up taking 7 hours. It was all good though, because the drive was beautiful.

With happy kids riding in back we pressed on towards our destination. Truth be told, Tanner about had an "are we there yet" tantrum....and that was only 30 minutes in to the drive.

But, Carter and Cali were just happy to be along for the ride.

At last, we made it! It was gorgeous and well worth the drive.

We got all set up and just chilled by the fire.

Did I mention it rained, and it rained and then it hailed. I had never seen such huge hail stones before, and I got pelted just to get this picture of the guys protected under the tent awning.
Twenty minutes later it looked like it had snowed. Carter said it looked like it was raining gumballs.

Nothing like a homecooked all the fixins breakfast in the mountains. Life doesn't get better than this.

We had to drive 1 hour the next day to get Cali this hat. It rained pretty much the entire time and at night it dropped down to 34 degrees, daytime it was in the 50's. To say the least it was so cold. Carter and I made frequent "pansy" trips as Todd began to call them, to the car to warm up our frozen fingers.

However, this did not get in our way from having a good time. We had a lake in our sights and by george there were fish to be caught.
I bought Cali a life jacket, but it was just to cold to take her with. So she and I stayed back.

The second night, the boys, Cali (nustled in my sleeping bag) and I were awake at 3 am talking, some of us crying about how cold it was. Carter asked, "did dad leave?" Tanner says "no carter he's in his mummy sleeping bag snoring." We were all a bit ticked that Dad could sleep at a time like this. If it weren't so cold I would have started us up a game of Uno, that is if my cold fingers could have held the cards, brrr.
Can you see that fish Todd is holding up? Neither could I, just teasing its one of the smaller ones they hooked into.

Homeward bound, after talking our ears off Tanner finally fell asleep with only 1 hour to go.... or so we thought, we got stopped for construction for an hour.

Its amazing especially to me that I can look back on this trip and say that we really had a lot of fun, and I can't wait to do it again. There is just something so nice about being in the mountains that just feeds and brings peace to my soul. That being said we will be going when its warmer.
Any campers out there want to join us the end of July?

You are a trooper! Mark really wants to start up camping, but we have nothing to go camping with. We need to start purchasing stuff because I have to say your trip looked fun! Glad you had a good time!
